Today I bring you an experiment that came about from the selection of skin colours available in TS4. There is a serious lack of dark skin colours, and the light ones have left a lot to be desired. After a bit of research, diving into the clientfullbuild files, lots of backwards and forwards into the game for testing, hex editing to edit the colour swatches because s4pe threw errors, I finally came up with the lightside and darkside skintones. I could not be more happy with my first, and possibly last foray into the world of TS4 skins. I came away knowing more about the game and some awesome new colours that don't look jaundice or ashy.
What you need to know:
- These are not new skins, they are new skin colours. They are found by default with Maxis skin colours and act as such. They work with all the Maxis skin details such as muscle slider, age categories, weight sliders and are for both genders and all age groups. They can also be a base for custom overlay skins that you find in the face detail sections.
- Pictured above (and in the archive) you can see previews from a standard basegame skin settings and with Kijiko's skin overhaul. Hopefully you will all find a use for these like I have in tandem with the other TS4 skin colours.
- A big shout-out to Snaitf for the tutorial over at Mod The Sims on uncovering the mystery of making non-default skin tones.
- CmarNYC also has a program at MTS to make your own if you are interested
- Cmar also has a program to update skins for IL so if you have ones needing fixed, check out the program
- Be sure to delete the older files before you put these new ones in!
- 30/01/2017 - the Vampire pack added new occult tags which were needed for these skins to be used so they have new been updated. I have also did a little update for the texture and pinkened the lips so they look more natural.
- 12/7/2019 - Updated for Island Living tanning and mermaids. (Hopefully) fixed the genetics issue by moving the swatches to respective tonal areas. Only offering download with both skintones in one archive
- 19/10/2919 - Updated to be compatible with Wicked Whims and fixed package size after IL update
- 27/6/2020 - Updated for RoM and spellcasters.
- 11/12/2020 - Updated for Dec2020 skintone update
- Basegame compatibility
- non-default
- 5 new light skin colours
- 5 new (desperately needed) dark skintones
- available for all ages and genders (except babies because they are objects)
- works with kijiko's skin overhaul or other Non-default skins
- works with custom skin overlays

I want to download them. But I dunno if it will work with the new patch (only Kijiko default is working for me right now). Do you know if they are working for you? :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your beautiful work. I always thought the darker colors were lacking in the vanilla.
Thank you for this. I read wrong. So this will work with the new patch just released right? Thank you ;)
ReplyDeleteYes, they work with the latest patch, i had to postpone the release because I needed to make sure they worked. Notegain found the fix quickly so it wan't much of a wait.
DeleteThese tones look beautiful and they are a real must-have. Thank you very much and have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteabsolutely amazing! its like you read my mind :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your work on the sims 4 creations. I love them all!
ReplyDeleteGreat skintones, but I hate Kijiko's overhauls; it gives even my overweight Sims insane muscle definition. Totally unrealistic and I'm not a fan of that.
ReplyDeleteEveryone to their own. Since these are just skin colours, they don't require any custom content. I showed them since they do look different in game (kijiko's are more defined). That is the great thing about adding skin colours and the new skin system. Colours are separate from body shading so its easier to add colours to work with different overlays and default replacements.
DeleteWell it's absolutely great that I can add these skin tones to my game without any required CC. I am so eternally grateful for that! Thank you :3
DeleteOh my, I don't think I can thank you enough for these. I was so frustrated with EA skin colors! Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteOhh these are just beautiful, thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteGreat work man! Lovely!
ReplyDeleteI just had the odd color skin tone thing happen to me LOL. I used one of the light skin tone, while my sim's husband had base game tan...but the baby came out black! LOL, it was very interesting. I was wondering, how do you change skin tone of the child in CAS, like you mentioned?
ReplyDeleteI really hate that about the skin colours. The way to edit would be entering "testingcheats true" then "cas.fulleditmode" then shift click on the sim you want to edit. Do be aware though, occasionally some things may glitch with it (like relationships etc) so save before doing this. I don't have any issues with it though.
DeleteIt doesn't diminish my love for these skin tones though! :) and Ok, will do! Thanks!
DeleteHi I downloaded these, they are beautiful, but they aren't showing up in my game. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what? I haven't played this game much I really don't understand the differences between skins and overlays. I just put them in my mods folder and I don't see them in body shop:(
ReplyDeleteMake sure your game is up to date. EA has changed a lot of CAS part coding since the initial release which has meant a few changes that mean newer content does not show up in earlier game versions. Skin colours is one example as the coding was changed when aliens were introduced with GTW.
DeleteAs for the difference, skin tone and skin details as much more complex then previous games. Before, they were all combined together. In TS4, skin colours are like a base colour that all the details are applied to as an overlay like cheeks, lips, abs, etc. So there are found under "Faces and Skin Tone" section rather then the "Skin Details" section.
These skins are so amazing! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHello, your skin looks so fabulous, but it doesn't show up in my game. Im sure its the latest version either. Do you have a solution?
ReplyDeleteI honestly can't tell you why its not showing up in your game. I would suggest you check out the "Installing Content" menu link at the top of my blog to see if you can find an answer there. If you cannot make it work from there, I need more information as to what you did, step-by-step so i can determine the issue as simply saying "it doesn't show up" gives me no useful information to help you solve the issue.
DeleteI was so glad to find your skin pack. Especially darkside :) I've felt the same about the lack of representation for darker skintones in the Sims. While I am here I will also say that your Build/Buy items and the like are also exquisite. Just getting back into CC since Sims3. I created my one and only CC build, ColorSplash PartyPlace, using your items almost exclusively (just one item by another CCer) you can find me in game and in forums, theLonnykins where I have a build thread featuring pics from that build. Thanks Again for sharing your creative technical expertise. G'day
ReplyDeleteWill you update these for island living so Sims using them can get toned?
ReplyDeleteI will investigate it but can't promise anything. Skins are still one of those things that not a lot of people make so hence not a lot is known about them.
DeleteThank you for updating this mod and sharing it with the rest of us! It's become such a staple in my game and I'm glad I'm able to use it to its fullest after the recent update!
ReplyDeleteI love these, only thing negative would be that I don't think they are set up for tanning, but that may be more work.
ReplyDeleteThe latest version is set up for tanning as that was the gold of that update
Deletei love this skin so much! i would like to know if you can make this skin work with wicked whims male parts.
ReplyDeletethis is a link to make this skin tune to work with wicked whims i would do it my self but don't know how to do any of this. https://wickedwhims.tumblr.com/post/168144290906/creating-custom-skin-tone-for-wickedwhims
ReplyDeleteAt the moment I don't intend to update it as I don't use wickedwhims so it isn't a priority for me, but i will consider it in the future when i have a bit of free time and knowing there is a tutorial out there to make it easier for me.
Deleteso i have been reading the tutorial i i think i can try and do it myself, but would need your "skin tune texture model" (the complete list of your skin tunes model from this package.
DeleteMine is the default so that is the area currently coloured. You will need to compare mine to the one supplied in the tutorial so see what area isn't coloured. It is that square area to the right of the legs that has been added for the textures to work properly.
DeleteHello! These are wonderful skintones, and I downloaded it and for some reason it's not working for me. :/ I don't know why it doesn't, I did updated the Sims 4 and my CC/mods is enabled, so I don't know why it can't. If you know then I would appreciate you will tell me whenever you have a chance, if you don't know then I understand, and thank you anyway. :)
ReplyDeletedid you extract the archive file?
DeleteNo, how do I do that?
Deletehttps://sims-online.com/install-mods-custom-content-sims-4-tutorial/
DeleteThis is a full explanation of mods for the sims, with a link to 7Zip or Unarchiver depending on what operating system you are on. Pretty much, you right click the archive , find the program entry in the list, choose extract here and you should be good to go.
Oh ok, I see, thank you very much! I truly appreciate it! Stay safe and have a goodnight. :)
DeleteHello, I noticed that the skin tones are not showing up on my spellcaster sim. :/ I downloaded the newest version, am I doing something wrong or are these just not allowed for spellcasters/occult sims?
ReplyDeleteThat is my bad, i need to add the new occult flags to show up. I will try to get an update up for the weekend
